Installing hitch bmw x5

This is what you will find on small trailers that do not have electric brakes but do have brake lights, running lights, and turn signals. We have had U — Haul install hitches on every car we have had for the past years, no problems.

We use the hitch for bike racks. It is a good hitch at a reasonable price. ANd they do lots of them. I also don't want to remove it completely as the vehicle is leased and would need to be put back on and of course, theres always the what if I need it in the future. The diffuser is held on by approx screws so its quite a simple swap. Note, this is how it comes from the factory and it needs to be painted still. Pic of the current diffuser is attached for those who don't know how it looks with the tow hitch.

Its essentially the same diffuser with the center cut out for a tow hitch. It is being painted this week and I should have it installed by Friday. Attached Images. Here it is All times are GMT The time now is AM.

Mark Forums Read. The CURT class 3 trailer hitch comes packaged with all of the nuts and bolts you need to get installed and ready to go. There are still a few things worth knowing, though. Depending on what model of BMW you are working with, you might need to do some minor trimming and sanding down of the rear fascia. After cutting the trim down, you need a little bit of elbow grease, a few standard tools, and about an hour of your time. The only curveball on the installation process comes if you want to install a trailer wiring kit.

However, there are plenty of YouTube tutorials to walk you through that project if you wish to pursue it. I must say that I'm rally impressed by the quality and attention do detail. Everything is solidly machined, but often it's the details that set things apart.

The rubber grommet that goes in place when the hitch pieces are not mounted. Nice detail. Similarly with the rubber cover on the key access for the unlock. Functional details that might go unnoticed like how you don't need the key to lock the system.

You press in to lock and use the key to unlock, It's slick. I opted for the combo system, but my main reason for purchase was for a bike rack. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I received the hitch on time. The install instructions were spot on. A ton of research has gone into this hitch. Towed a 22 ft boat with a X5 with absolutely no problems.

Well done! Well made, easy to put on and take off, works with rental trailers. When off, can't see the hardware. To use the 4-pin US electrical connector, you'll need to remove the heat shield, but that's easy.

Just 5 screws.
